How to Create a Bespoke Piece of Jewellery

I love it when a client comes to me wanting a completely custom piece of jewellery. It is such a joy to turn someone’s idea into a wearable object, especially when it is always handmade from recycled and ethical materials.

Below is a quick guide to how I would approach a bespoke jewellery commission, handmade by myself in my Glasgow workshop.

Whether you have an idea in mind or starting from scratch, we can have an informal chat about the direction you’re looking to go in and a rough budget. From gifts for a loved one or yourself, an anniversary present, to wedding bands and surprise engagement rings.

 

After our initial discussion I will create a couple of design options within your budget range

I am so passionate about experimenting with materials and trying new processes, so custom jewellery truly is a favourite of mine.

Once I come back to you and we decide on a design, I will need 6 to 8 weeks to complete the making process. Everything is entirely hand-crafted by myself in my workshop, and I take pride in how much I care about each and every part of it.

Every piece of jewellery I create is handmade from recycled and ethically sourced materials. From yellow gold, white gold to sterling silver and gemstones.

Inspired by the natural world around us

I'm endlessly inspired by the unexpected flowing nature of the earth, whether a hidden reflection in a slow moving stream or the simmering horizon line of the Scottish Isles.

Perfectly irregular and organic in shape, I give materials the freedom to ebb and flow, creating their forms. I love the unexpected nature of this process and wouldn’t have it any other way.

With this in mind I will always follow the design and plan we have made together, but knowing the design may evolve and develop as I go along. I honestly think is the most exciting part of hand-making custom jewellery.
