My Journey to Sustainable Jewellery Design
A little bit about Becky, the owner of sustainable jewellery brand On the Wire Jewellery!
Everything started at the beginning.
This may sound a bit cryptic but really it did; my passion in life has always been creativity, making and imagination. And to be honest, it's the only thing I've ever felt I'm good at and passionate about. I truly believe that sharing, encouraging and giving creativity is imperative for not only our wellbeing but to bring our communities together.
So art, art, art, is everything I did growing up. Making a mess, drawing on walls (sorry Dad) and always learning new creative skills. From my Fine Art degree in Birmingham, my love of the natural world and sustainability led me to a masters degree in Edinburgh: Art, Space and Nature.
Creative communication
Studying Environmental Art in Scotland was an incredibly enriching experience for me. We trawled through bogs, listened to inspiring artist talks and learned about sustainable creativity, and how imperative this communicative work is in the climate crisis. I found myself constantly looking for hidden patterns in landscapes, scouring moss covered terrain and capturing the intricacies of rivers.
Sustainable jewellery
All of these experiences led me to where I am today: passionate about the natural world, the intricacies within it and innovative design. Now, as a self-taught jeweller, I am able to apply all of the knowledge I gained as a creative thinker whilst I experiment with traditional silversmithing processes.

So here I am, all these years later with a passion for our planet and a love of sustainable design. I've been able to combine two of the things I prioritise in my life, and amazingly as a career too!
Sculptural, conceptual patterns extracted from Nature transformed into wearable unique forms is the objective of On the Wire Jewellery. Everything we make is always by hand and only ever from recycled sterling silver.
