Projects
I love experimenting with materials and creating original designs. Here are a few examples of my recent commissions all handmade from recycled and scrap sterling silver:
Torn Brooch
Handmade from recycled sterling silver and silver scraps- not only is this my first ever brooch, but it is a continuation of a design that encompasses everything I love about jewellery making.
By experimenting with a material and its boundaries, it stretches, tears and transforms.
Even with a focus on process, my work unconditionally takes inspiration from the natural world and its intricacies. I learn something new about silversmithing every day, and how a piece can exist by exploring its possibilities.
Tiree Coastline Ring
Inspired by the craggy rocks of Balevullin Beach, Tiree.
This recycled silver ring reflects a line of coastal rocks that Jade and her family have visited together for years. On the beautiful tiny Isle of Tiree they sit on a boulder at the end of this line and watch the waves crash in the distance.
A sentimental gift for her brother, this meaningful ring is a reminder of this spot they've sat at again and again together.
I absolutely love a commission with sentiment; something only those two people understand. And translating a natural landscape into wearable jewellery just really is the best thing in the world.
Featuring a brushed outside and polished interior, this handmade commission is a gentle nod to quietly observing a natural landscape which otherwise might pass you by.
This band would make a beautiful wedding ring too!
Isle of Canna Sea Glass Jewellery Set
Handmade from blue sea glass hand-picked on the Isle of Canna, this scrap silver jewellery set is my favourite to date.
Commissioned as a gift by a customer for their partner, they picked this beautiful blue sea glass together on Canna. This is my favourite kind of commission - one with a lovely sentiment and completely experimental.
The blue sea glass used for the pendant is almost mountainous, a beautiful organic shape that I made no changes to at all. Leaving the glass as it was found after years rolling around in the sea is my favourite part of all.
The drop earrings were handmade using shards of the blue sea glass that otherwise would have been wasted, too small to make into a pendant, alongside molten scrap sterling silver.
Hand-Picked Pearl Earrings
A customer asked me to create a pair of earrings with some beautiful wee pearls he foraged from mussels in Lochaline, Scotland.
Given full reign on the creative design, I decided to water cast recycled silver into these sweet little cup-like droplets to hold the pearls. Playing on the idea of water as both design and creator, the molten silver was poured into water so the process took hold of the final outcome.
Leaving the earrings with an oxidised surface I think this really leans into the natural design.
As always I try to make my creative practice as zero-waste as possible, so this lovely pair of earrings are handmade from the recycled silver scraps which I am continuously adding to in my studio.
Snake Ring Commission
I was commissioned to make something special for a customer's partner, based on a custom tattoo of a snake she has on her arm.
Taking inspiration from the original design, I placed sea glass they had picked together in Sicily along the design to represent each of the tattoo's symbols.
Being given free reign on jewellery design is such a treat for me, and to make a sustainable piece for someone to wear is even more special.
Isle of Skye Wedding Rings
This was such a lovely project.
These two wedding bands were inspired by the place where the couple got engaged; the northern coast of Skye. Taking this as my starting point, I sculpted recycled sterling silver into the coastline.
The most special part of this design is that the two rings both reflect each other and fit together at once.
These are sustainable wedding rings, inspired by nature.
Ethiopian Opal Ring
This commission came all the way from Ethiopia!
The customer lived and worked in Gondar for a year, and asked for a custom piece as a way to commemorate her time there.
The Ethiopian Opal came from North Wollo in the Amhara Region. The incredible deep blues reflect iridescently in the sunlight, with a semi-polished finish to the recycled silver. These textures can be seen as reflecting the beautiful and vast nature of the Ethiopian landscape.
Celtic Inspired Earrings
Running with the theme of partnership, I made two earrings inspired by the Celtic Star. Made to be worn separately by the couple, they simultaneously make each other whole when put together.
The little individual recycled silver diamonds form an origami star, with a feather texture on the front and a high polished back.
I absolutely loved being given free reign on this design, and adore the sentiment behind it.
Irvine Wedding Ring
This wedding ring design was inspired by a special part of the West Coast of Scotland, Irvine.
Following the horizon lines through drawings I made, this ring reflects the beautiful beach view where a special bride said 'I do'.
Creating a unique and meaningful piece for a wedding or engagement is such a joy. Reach out if you have a special place or time that you would like to incorporate into your big day!
Corrour Studs
The Corrour Studs, named after a beautiful part of the Scottish Highlands, feature craggy burns and pebble tracks.
Each recycled silver pebble is individually handmade, clustered together to form these sculptural shapes.
Sea Glass Ring
This handcrafted ring with a recycled sterling silver sculptural setting and delicate wire band. With sea glass picked on the West Coast of Scotland, this ring was named after the place its wee gem was found.
Set of Molten Silver Earrings
I was asked by a customer to create three pairs of matching scrap silver earrings. Comprising of a pair of hoops, mini studs and chunky earrings, I handmade these oozing molten gems.
Both sustainable and completely original, what a feat.
