Venturing into Recycled Gold

Venturing into Recycled Gold

This blog post is entirely dedicated to a very special ring I made recently. A lovely customer commissioned me to make their partner an Engagement Ring, and what an honour that was.

I am so grateful every time I am asked to make Engagement and Wedding Jewellery - it is such an important part of someone’s life, and something that they will wear forever. I am so happy to be part of it.

If you want to work together to create some special jewellery for someone you love, please don’t hesitate to contact me here.

White Gold Engagement Ring with Trio of Blue Sapphires

This custom Engagement Ring was entirely informed by my customer and their partner’s life together. Reflecting on their partnership she sent me some beautiful thoughts and ideas inspired by her partners hobbies and career, which led me to the final design. As a ceramist, a lover of prehistoric engravings, the sea and the moon, I created a design that encompassed these personal elements.

Below is my journey to making this very special ring, I am so proud of this creation and in love with the final product. And even more importantly, the happy couple were over the moon with their Engagement Ring.

Inspired by the moon, I hand-carved a crescent shape out of wax. The idea of this moon shape is that it smoothly fits the wearers ring finger, with the blue hues of the Sapphires peeping out of the side. By using wax I am able to make the exact shape I’m looking for, and also easily edit the mould.

Using sand from a beach on the West Coast of Scotland that is meaningful to the couple, I sand-cast the ring.

With a few of trials I eventually created the final Silver version which would be sent off to be cast into nine carat White Gold.

Here we are left with the final piece. A nine carat White Gold ring set with three wee Sapphires in different shades of blue, inspired by the coastline that is meaningful to the couple, and they visit together often.

I am so honoured to have been trusted to make this bespoke engagement ring. I love nothing more than nature-inspired jewellery with sentiment, and being trusted entirely with the custom design. I am so excited to experiment more with recycled gold and precious stones!
